I got to ride the Starboard 12'6 X 25 "The New" race SUP today. It was designed by Brian Szymanski in California, this board makes you do a double take the first time you see it. I call it The Shoe, it resembles some kind of streamlined danish clog or something. We grabbed a few 12'6 starboards and hit the beach.  I grabbed "The New" and jumped in it, immediately, the depth of the foot wells makes you literally  jump in and go. With the first stroke the board took off, it felt like there was no wind when it was blowing about 12 knots head on. I kept putting distance between me and 2 friends.

11/10/10
Board Specs: 12'6 X 25  EPS Epoxy standard glass  my weight: 182lbs my height: 5'10
The conditions: were 1 to 2 foot seas with a 1 foot background swell with 10 to 12 knot winds.
The Ride: At 25" wide I was wondering how tippy this board would be. I paddled in small short period chop, it got tippy on me a few times, but the board only went so far then stop tipping. This was the first time I paddled it and know with a little practice I could get it wired pretty easy. The board just took off from the first stroke and kept on going and going. We turned around about 1/2 mile up wind and started back downwind. I was able to pick up little rolling chop and keep the board moving at a pretty consistent clip. I was worried that with such a thick nose the board would take waves over the front. It did a great job negotiating the small chop, any water that came over the nose, which was very little, was pushed off the side due to the vee up by the nose and didn't make it to the foot wells. The deep foot wells make you stand at the water line, this helps keep the board stable even at 25 inches wide.
Conclusion: This board is fast, it was so much fun to be on such an efficient board and look forward to paddling this board more.
